(Vevay, Ind.) – A historic home in Vevay was damaged by a fire Tuesday morning, November 12.

Firefighters with the Jeff-Craig Fire Department responded to the Webb-Allen House on Greeley Avenue for a report of a house fire with a person possibly still inside. That person had escaped the home before firefighters arrived on scene.

The fire was largely contained to one room of the home.

The American Red Cross of Southeast Indiana is now assisting the residents.

Other agencies assisting at the scene included Moorefield and East Enterprise fire departments, Switzerland County EMS, Vevay Police, Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, and Vevay Utilities.

According to a historical marker sign, the Webb-Allen House was built in 1886 by Oscar and Jenny Webb who ran the Phoenix Hotel for many years.
