(Florence, Ky.) – Fireworks caused some tense moments inside Florence Mall on Tuesday.

No arrests have been announced following the incident in which a man lit fireworks inside the food court area of the mall around 4:00 p.m.

Some shoppers took cover, thinking the noise was from an active shooter situation. Numerous 911 calls were made reporting shots fired, triggering a massive police response to the mall.

“Several witnesses in the food court advised the officers that it was an unknown male who actually let off some firecrackers and ran out of the Mall. Officers were quickly able to verify this by reviewing security video,” said Florence Police Sgt. Tom Grau.

The mall was briefly placed on lockdown. There were no injuries.

Police say the man who set off the fireworks was taking video of himself. He is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s with a stocky build. He was wearing a peach or pink colored polo shirt, gray shorts and white tennis shoes.
