(Osgood, Ind.) – A bunch of folks want to say “thanks” to first responders in Ripley County.

By all accounts, the county’s EMS crews, firefighters, and police performed marvelously when an EF3 tornado struck the town of Holton on March 2. Two people died in the twister and six more were hurt.

State Representative Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) is helping organize a free appreciation picnic for first responders on Saturday, May 19 at the Ripley County Fairgrounds. The picnic will begin at 11:30 a.m.

“As a career firefighter I know how difficult it is to respond to such a large disaster.  The emergency agencies who responded to the Holon tornado did a terrific job of taking care of our citizens and for that I want to say thank you,” Frye said.

Any volunteers who came to help their neighbors in recovering from the storm are also welcome to attend.

There will be live music at the picnic provided by two bands, including the Keith Swinney Band. Bass guitarist Ron Pickett was one of the two men killed in the Holton tornado.

Area department have been asked to display their fire trucks, police cars, and other apparatus at the picnic.
