Former Firefighter Allegedly Used Dept’s Store Account

(Bright, Ind.) – A suspended firefighter is accused of charging more than $800 to the Bright Fire Department’s account at a local hardware store.
Rickey D. Plowman, of Bright, was placed on an indefinite suspension from the volunteer fire department on May 1. A protection order was placed prohibiting Plowman from visiting the department’s three stations, any incident scene firefighters were dispatched to, and the fire chief and his family.
Though he was on suspension, Plowman allegedly continued to make purchases for the department totaling $815.90 at Wiseway Supply in May and June. Officials at the fire department told police they never received the supplies Plowman had purchase.
Plowman told officers that he did not know he was on suspension, but did state he was not making runs or participating in any way with the Bright Fire Department.
Plowman, 51, was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of Theft (Class D felony). He was released after posting a $1,000 cash bond, jail officials said.
Court records show Plowman was charged with Invasion of Privacy on June 3 for violating a protection order against a family member. The case was dismissed July 10 by prosecutors and a judge at the request of the victim.
