Four Straight: East Central Girls Win Another Track & Field Sectional Title

(Brookville, Ind.) – The girls track and field section of East Central High School’s trophy case must be getting crowded.
The EC Trojans won their fourth consecutive IHSAA Girls Track & Field Sectional on Tuesday at Franklin County High School. Among the 13 teams competing in Brookville, East Central gained the most team points with 186.5. Greensburg was a distant second with 119 points, following by Batesville’s 86, Franklin County’s 75, and then Oldenburg Academy and South Dearborn tied for fifth with 34 points each.
East Central athletes won nine of the 16 events at the sectional meet. It started with the 4×800 meter relay team of Abigail Bittner, Emma Fey, Lily Greiwe, and Lauren Greiwe crossing the finish line at 9:49.54.

Bittner also won the 800 meter run in 2:24.95.
Eva Grimm won multiple sectional events. She took the 100 meter dash crown in 12.63 and did the same in the 200 meter dash in 26.24.
Grimm was also a member of the Trojans’ 4×100 meter relay team of Mackenzie Ewing, Audrey Griffin, and Brianna Lobenstein, who set a new sectional record with a time of 50.22 seconds. The previous record of 50.47 was set in 2004 by East Central.
And Grimm ran the final leg of the 4×400 relay. She and teammates Abigail Bittner, Emma Fey, and Lily Greiwe posted a time of 4:08.12.
Audrey Griffin also won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.12 seconds.
East Central’s lone field event winner was sophomore Mary Bertke in the pole vault. She set a Franklin County venue record with a height of 10’, besting EC teammate Casey Johnson by six inches.
Second-place Batesville’s Haylee Harmeyer won the 400 meter dash in 59.99, just a second ahead of Lawrenceburg freshman Juliana Kemper.
Franklin County freshman Ashlin Hill won the long jump with a personal record of 16’ 7”.

South Dearborn’s lone event winner was freshman Eva Quinlan. She claimed the sectional championship in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.46.
The first, second, and third place winners in each event earned a spot at IHSAA Girls Track & Field Regional at Franklin Community High School on Tuesday, May 23.
