Gallatin Co. Deputy Shoots Man Who Threatened With Gun

(Verona, Ky.) – A sheriff’s deputy was involved in a fatal shooting Saturday evening in Gallatin County.

Kentucky State Police say deputies were dispatched to a home on Kentucky Highway 16 in Verona in regards to an intoxicated person report at around 5:00 p.m.

Deputy Edwin Caldwell was approached by a man identified as Gary Burdine, 41, who lived at the home. Burdine reportedly pulled a gun and threatened to shoot the deputy, KSP investigators say. Caldwell drew his pistol and shot Burdine, who died at the scene.

Caldwell was not injured.

Kentucky State Police are handling the investigation into the shooting.

Caldwell has been placed on leave during the investigation.
