(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – New features are being added to the Special Olympics Indiana Fire Truck Pull happening Saturday, August 19 in Lawrenceburg.

Teams of up to 15 people will compete at pulling a 74,000-pound Lawrenceburg Fire Department ladder truck a distance of 50 feet in the shortest amount of time. The victorious team will receive the coveted Fastest Pull Challenge trophy. A trophy will also be awarded for the Lowest Combined Weight Pull.

“You have five minutes to pull it 50 feet. The quickest time has been a little under two minutes. The trick is that once you get it rolling, keep pulling,” says event organizer Greg Townsend.

There is still time to register your own team. Go to www.soindiana-rod.org/ftp any time before the event. Each team must raise at least $500 in pledges for Special Olympics Indiana.

“We want to add as many as we can get,” says Townsend. “Get 15 of your friends, family, co-workers, your school football team even.”

The Fire Truck Pull will be at the corner of Short and High streets. The events will start at noon and end at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.

This year’s event will feature the Haag Ford “Cruisin’ for Acceptance” Car Show featuring a variety of unique cars and antique fire trucks from noon until 6:00. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a petting zoo and pony rides from noon until 6:00, a safety town from noon until 4:00, a Kiddie Pull at 2:00, and live music by Jackwagon from 6:00 until 8:00.
