By Mike Perleberg
(Aspen, Co.) – With a masterful third run, Dearborn County skier Nick Goepper secured his second Winter X Games gold medal in men’s ski slopestyle Sunday.
In second place after two rounds, Goepper scored a 95.00 on his final trip down the slopestyle course, sticking every rail and landing then topping off his victorious run with a triple corkscrew 1440.

It’s the second Winter X Games gold medal in ski slopestyle in as many years for the 19-year-old who got his start skiing at Perfect North Slopes near Lawrenceburg at age 5. He is the first skier to repeat as a gold medalist in that event since Tanner Hall did so ten years ago.
Fellow American McRae Williams claimed the silver medal, finishing with a best run of 92.66. Andreas Håtveit, of Norway, earned the bronze.
Next on the Hidden Valley resident’s agenda: claim a gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The games begin February 7 and the men’s ski slopestyle qualifications and finals are scheduled for February 13.
A gold medal is certainly in reach. Goepper is ranked first in the world in men’s ski slopestyle.
