Goodpaster Improves To 5-2 With River Monsters; Takes Team To Playoffs
By Mike Perleberg
(Highland Heights, Ky.) – A professional indoor football team led by a Lawrenceburg resident are on the way to the playoffs in their league.
Mike Goodpaster, a 1987 South Dearborn High School graduate, took over as head coach of the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, a member of the Continental Indoor Football League, mid-season in February. At that point, the River Monsters were 2-3 and had recently lost starting quarterback Jared Lorenzen, a former Kentucky Wildcat and NFL backup, to injury.
Since then the team has gone 5-2, including a streak of winning their past five games. That most recent win, 36-24 on the road in Dayton, clinched a CIFL playoff berth for the Monsters.
Goodpaster and his team will meet the Marion Blue Racers in the CIFL South Division championship game on Saturday, May 10 in Marion, Ohio. The winner will move on to the CIFL Championship Game on May 17.

Prior to joining the River Monsters, Goodpaster was head coach for the Evansville Rage in 2011-2012 season and remained with the team when it relocated to Owensboro, Kentucky for the 2012-2013 season.
