(Frankfort, Ky.) – A Republican Kentucky lawmaker wants to make recreational use of marijuana legal.
State Senator Dan Seum (R-Fairdale) filed Senate Bill 80, titled the Adult Responsible Use Act, on Wednesday. He said legalization could generate up to $200 million annually for a state that is seeking ways to help close a funding gap for the state public employee pension system.
The proposal would legalize marijuana for use by adults age 21 or older.
Seum believes legalization could create an industry with 15,000 new jobs in the state.
Marijuana legalization advocates are planning a lobby day for medical cannabis at the Kentucky Statehouse on Tuesday, January 23.
Eight states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for recreational use.
