phone-scam.jpg(Greendale, Ind.) – Greendale Police received two calls on April 1st and 2nd to report a scam that involved someone claiming to represent Publisher’s Clearing House or Reader’s Digest.

The caller told the recipients that they had won a sweepstakes, says Sgt. Kevin Turner. The caller than would ask for money to be put on a debit card which they would then send to another address to collect the sweepstakes winnings.

On several occasions people have been sent to CVS to purchase debit cards.

Most of the calls regarding the scam have come from a 202 area code, Turner notes.
