(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Democrat gubernatorial candidate John Gregg plans to announce his selection for Lieutenant Governor Tuesday, just a day after Republican Mike Pence named his.

An e-mail from Gregg’s campaign said he will make his choice on Tuesday. A press conference is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on the steps of the Indiana Statehouse.

The Indianapolis Star reports sources say Gregg’s pick will be Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson (D-Ellettsville).

Simpson has served in the state Senate since 1984.

On Monday, Pence announced via social media that freshman State Representative Sue Ellspermann (R-Ferdinand) would be his running mate.

Following Pence’s announcement Monday, reporters asked Ellspermann why she voted on a Democrat ballot in the 2008 presidential primary.

“This was a personal decision as a Hoosier and as an American,” she said.

Ellspermann would not disclose who she voted for between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
