(Greensburg, Ind.) – A member of a southeast Indiana area school board may be preparing to plead guilty to fraud and theft charges.

Last August, Tammy Hayes, of Vevay and a member of the Switzerland County Board of School Trustees, was arrested and charged with Fraud on a Financial Institution (Class C felony) and Theft (Class D felony).

The former Main Source Bank loan mortgage originator is accused of taking the bank’s customer appraisal fees through a scheme. The alleged theft amounted to $48,000 between January 2010 to April 2013.

During a court hearing Thursday in Decatur County – where Main Source Bank is headquartered in Greensburg – prosecutors agreed to take the case to a guilty plea hearing on Thursday, August 21.

Hayes has remained active on the school board since her arrest. It’s unclear if she will get to keep her elected position if convicted. Hayes’ four-year term runs through 2016.
