(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A new mayor takes office in Rising Sun Monday.

Former Ohio County Councilwoman April Hautman will be sworn in as the city’s first ever female mayor. She was selected by a caucus of Ohio County Republicans last month to fill the position being vacated by Mayor Branden Roeder.

Roeder is resigning today in order to prepare to become the new superintendent of Rising Sun Ohio County Schools. The Ohio County Elementary Middle School teacher officially steps into that position on July 1.

In an interview with Eagle 99.3 last week, Hautman said she wants to see an increase in communication between the city and Ohio County government. You can read more here.
