(Hogan Township, Ind.) – A family with at least nine children is out of a home after it was gutted by a fire Thursday evening.

The blaze was reported about 7:30 p.m. on the 13200 block of Shawnee Drive in Dearborn County’s Hogan Township.

Hogan Township Fire Department Chief Ed Opp said nobody was hurt, but the home was badly damaged. Fire had gotten into the walls and spread to the attic, he explained.

Firefighters from Hogan Township, Aurora, and Moores Hill as well as Aurora EMS spent more than four hours on the scene. A cause is still under investigation, said Opp.

The Southeastern Indiana chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting that displaced family, who neighbors say consider of two adults and at least nine children. Neighbors were also discussing ways to help the family.
