(Florence, Ky.) – Turfway Park will host its first live horse races in eight month this December.

Turfway’s Holiday Meet will take place Thursdays through Sundays during the final month of the year. There will be nine races each day.

Turfway did not host a fall meet for the first time in 50 years this past September. General Manager Chip Bach said the horse track is excited to have racing back.

“We’re adding some new elements, like craft beer, new food items, and education for new fans,” said Turfway GM Chip Bach. “But we’re also getting back to the basics of what—besides live racing—makes coming to Turfway so much fun: friendly service, good value on Dollar Friday with dollar bets and larger dollar drafts, high-energy local bands, and a New Year’s Eve party that’s again truly a party, where the fans get involved instead of just watch the entertainment.”

Two stakes highlight the holiday racing schedule, each offering a $50,000 purse. The first is the 28th running of the Holiday Inaugural Stakes on December 7. The other is the 19th running of the Prairie Bayou Stakes on December 21. Both races are for fillies and mares ages 3 years and up.

Turfway also brags an upgraded track in time for the meet. A new polytrack surface marks the completion of the first phase of a three-year, $500,000 renovation project. The synthetic track is the first in North America.
