Human Remains Identified As Missing Ohio Woman

Katelyn Markham was reported missing in 2011. Remains found in a Franklin County creek on Sunday have been identified as hers.

(Cedar Grove, Ind.) – Skeletal remains found in a creek near Cedar Grove last weekend have been identified as a woman who vanished from Fairfield, Ohio two years ago.


Indiana State Police say the human remains are that of Katelyn Markham. The 21-year-old disappeared without a trace and was reported as a missing person by Fairfield Police on August 14, 2011.


The remains were discovered by people collecting cans from along Big Cedar Creek on Big Cedar Road Sunday morning. Indiana State Police, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, and Franklin County Coroner have been investigating the case since.


The remains were sent to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office on Monday, and now the identification has been made.


“The Fairfield Police Department and the Indiana State Police are working in concert to conduct an investigation into the death of Miss Markham,” said ISP Sgt. Noel Houze.
