(Ripley County, Ind.) – A Columbus, Indiana man has died after being shot while hunting with his brother and a boy in Ripley County.

The incident occurred Saturday at around 8:35 a.m. in Holton when a gun went off in the hunting blind, striking and killing Anthony Thompson, according to Indiana Conservation Officers.

Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies arrived first on the scene. Ripley County EMS provided medical assistance to Thompson, who was initially reported to have life-threatening injuries.

The Ripley County Coroner pronounced Thompson dead after arriving on scene at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Conservation Office Travis Stewart says foul play is not suspected.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday.

The names of the other two people in the hunting party are not being released while the investigation into the shooting continues, Stewart said.
