Ind. Senator Coats “Right Room, Wrong Hearing”
By Mike Perleberg
(Washington, D.C.) – Indiana Senator Dan Coats is laughing off a mix-up that’s getting national attention.
“I just got a note saying I’m at the wrong hearing,” Coats said chuckling. “I got the right room number, but the wrong hearing.”
On Wednesday, the Republican Coats thought he was at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on the defense budget, but was actually questioning the undersecretary of treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence. The Washington Post reported the minor blunder.
“Well, that would explain why I didn’t know anything about this letter,” said David Cohen, the undersecretary referring to the Senator’s comment to him.
Another committee member told Coats he’s always welcome to attend the committee’s hearings.
Coats, an outspoken critic of Russia’s activity in Crimea, later joked about it on Twitter:
I think the Russians have been messing with my schedule. But I never miss a chance to tout IN’s talented workforce http://t.co/uV0h5nnZXI
