Indiana Gun Background Checks On Record Pace
(Undated) – A record number of Hoosiers are purchasing guns, according to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The South Bend Tribune reports that Indiana gun retailers performed more than 730,000 background checks in the first four months of this year, more than double the 302,000 checks conducted during the 2015’s first quarter.
Last year, Indiana set a record with more than 1 million background checks for gun purchases. At the current pace, this year’s number would shatter that record.
Nationally, the FBI found that the number of background checks so far this year is up 34 percent.
The background check data does not account for all gun sales, which can also occur through private sales or gun shows.
