INDOT To Chip Seal US 421 This Week
By Travis Thayer
(Jefferson County, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation will begin a chip seal project this week in Jefferson County.
INDOT crews plan to chip seal all 16 miles of U.S. Highway 421 between Madison and the Jefferson-Ripley county line on Wednesday, July 19 and Thursday, July 20, weather permitting.
Maintenance crews from INDOT’s Madison Subdistrict will place surface treatment materials on the northbound U.S. 421 lane beginning Wednesday morning. On Thursday, work will switch over to the southbound lane at the county line.
Chip seal applications are a cost-effective way to preserve pavement and extend the service life of functional highways by sealing cracks with liquid asphalt.
INDOT officials advise motorists to drive very slowly and with extreme caution to avoid damage from asphalt spray and loose aggregate.
