(Brookville, Ind.) – U.S. 52 in Franklin County is going to remain closed for at least another week.

The highway suffered a serious slip and collapsed pavement at a stretch called Orschell’s curve in early April. Engineers with the Indiana Department of Transportation had hoped to reopen the highway east of Brookville by May 1, but recent rainy weather has slowed repairs.

An INDOT spokesman now says that the highway could reopen sometime in the second week of May.

In the meantime, local motorists will have to continue using county roads to detour around. Larger trucks are told to use INDOT’s official detour on Interstate 74 to State Road 3, then backtrack to Brookville.
