(Richmond, Ind.) – The first possible candidate to replace long time Indiana State Senator Allen Paul has stepped forward.

Last week, Paul (R-Richmond) announced he will not seek re-election in 2014 in Senate District 27. The district includes all or parts of Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin, Randolph, Union, and Wayne counties.

Former Wayne County commissioner Doug Williamson announced he will run for the senate position, the Richmond Palladium-Item reported Monday. He is the first to file to seek the party nomination.

Williamson ran for State Representative in House District 56. He lost to Richard Hamm in the May Republican primary election.

Wayne County Republican Party Chairman Denny Burns said there may be other Republicans interested in running for the District 27 seat.
