fatal-fire-graphic(East Enterprise, Ind.) – A house fire in Switzerland County late Sunday night turned fatal.

The sheriff’s office says that a 911 call was received at about 11:00 p.m. reporting a house fire at a home on Bradford Road with somebody possibly still in the residence.

Firefighters with East Enterprise and Posey Township fire departments responded to the scene and found the home fully engulfed in flames. They worked quickly to extinguish the blaze.

The homeowner, Linda Mello, 52, was unable to escape the burning home and died, said Sheriff Roy Leap. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators with the sheriff’ office, Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Fire Marshall’s office are looking into the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined Monday morning. The Switzerland County Coroner’s Office will determine Mello’s exact cause of death.
