Jeff-Craig Fire Members Shave Heads To Support Colleague With Breast Cancer
By Travis Thayer
(Vevay, Ind.) – The Jeff-Craig Fire Department is fighting a different kind of battle after learning one of its members has been diagnosed with cancer.
Last month, Jeff-Craig Fire & Rescue Auxiliary Member Erin Schmitt was diagnosed with breast cancer. After learning the news, it didn’t take long for department personnel to spring into action.
Before their November meeting, 17 members of Jeff-Craig Fire shaved their heads with Erin.
The haircuts were provided by Heather Thomas and Halie Gault of H&CO, and Rocky McKenzie of High Spirits Salon.
“Our department is one big family, and no one goes through anything by themselves,” said Lewis Fritter. “Erin is a big part of our fire department family and we wanted to let her know how much she means to us.”
Jeff-Craig Fire has also launched a fundraiser by selling “Erin Inspired” fire department t-shirts. The t-shirts are on sale for $20 at Creative Images and the American Legion in Vevay, or through any Jeff-Craig Fire Department member.
