Kidnapping Suspect Indicted By Grand Jury

(Covington, Ky.) – A Covington man has been indicted in connection with the abduction of a woman at the Crestview Hill Town Center last May.


Last May, Joseph Weir allegedly abducted a 74-year-old woman from the shopping center and made her drive him to Cleves.


The victim, Ann Ernst, was left tied to a tree in a wooded area near Cleves Waterworks where she was gagged and tied to a tree. The kidnapper stole her car and purse. Ernst was able to free herself and found help from an off-duty police officer.


The Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney presented the case to a grand jury Thursday morning. The grand jury returned an indictment on Weir for robbery, first degree  kidnapping and first degree persistent felony offender.


Weir, 39, remains in jail on a $50,000 bond, which could be increased with the new indictment.


He was arrested February 7 in connection with a bank robbery he is accused of committing in Covington last December 5.
