Knueven Leads Way To Track & Field State Finals

track-field-start-finish-line(Connersville, Ind.) – East Central’s Cade Knueven is among the southeast Indiana athletes making a return to the state track & field finals.

Knueven, a senior, was second in the 100 meter dash at the IHSAA Boys Track & Field Regional held at Connersville High School Thursday, less than a tenth of a second behind Franklin Central’s Marcel Price. Knueven was also third in the  200 meter dash finals.

Athletes had to finish third or better in order to qualify for the boys state finals meet to be held Saturday, June 7 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Joining Knueven there will be teammate Nathan Corn. Corn, a sophomore, was third in the pole vault at 13’6”.

Rising Sun’s Austin Martin also earned a state finals berth. The senior leaper was second in the high jump at 6’4”. Only Warren Central’s Dennis Jarrell was better at 6’6”. Fellow Shiner Briar Miller was fourth in the high jump at 6’2″.

South Ripley’s Austin Allen, a senior, just missed the state finals cut, coming in fourth in the 400 meter dash. So did East Central’s Jordan Brown, who was fourth in the 800 meter run.

South Dearborn senior distance runner Joe Rector was fourth in the 3200 meter run at 9:36.34, about nine seconds off of third place.

The 4×100 meter relay team from East Central placed fourth.

No area team qualified for the state finals by finishing in the top three in total points. East Central was the best local team, coming in sixth place with 37 points. Rising Sun was 13th with 15 points. Batesville and South Ripley were among four teams tied for 24th place.
