Kroger Eyes New Store In Union
(Union, Ky.) – A new Kroger Marketplace opened in Florence on Thursday. Now, Boone County could be getting its third Kroger Marketplace store within the next few years.
This week, the Union City Commission voted 3-1 to pass the second reading of an ordinance that would allow a store to be built on 35 acres along US 42 near Braxton Drive, The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Union Mayor Don Kirby, who previously voted against the zoning map amendment ordinance, but was not in attendance at the meeting Monday, April 14.
The city commission approved the zoning amendment despite a recommendation to deny it from the Boone County Planning Commission.
Many residents had voiced opposition to the project, but developers say Union’s population has quadrupled since the current Kroger store there was built in 1997.
According to The Enquirer, the plans for the new Kroger Marketplace include a 135,976-square-foot grocery store, 8,000-square-foot liquor store, fuel center, out lots, and 730 parking spaces. There is no timeline for completion of the project.
