(Ripley County, Ind.) – Construction crews are reducing a portion of Interstate 74 near Batesville to one lane.

The westbound side of I-74 is was buttoned down to one lane between the 151 and 146 mile markers in Ripley County on Wednesday, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Stretches of eastbound I-74 also continue to be restricted for patching operations between mile markers 145.5 and 150. INDOT says the single-lane closures are being imposed in segments about one mile in length to secure existing pavement prior to winter weather.

Lane shifts will be in effect Friday evening, September 29 on westbound I-74 between mile markers 142 and 144.

The lane closures are part of a 2 ½ year, $61 million Next Level Roads project between New Point and State Road 101. Milestone is the state’s contractor on the pavement replacement project. The project includes new pavement on I-74 in Decatur, Franklin and Ripley counties, as well as completely rebuilt bridges at Little Laughery Creek and Western Creek.
