Late-Arriving Choir’s 4-H Fair Performance Nixed

(Brookville, Ind.) – A bit of the World Choir Games held the past two weeks in Cincinnati was to be heard Tuesday at the Franklin County 4-H Fair in Brookville, but plans have fallen through.

The Gema Chandra Cendrawasih University Choir from Papua, Indonesia was scheduled to perform twice at the county fair Tuesday. However, in order to catch their Friday flight back to their country they must leave on the 2,400-mile bus trip to an airport in San Francisco by noon Tuesday, The Franklin County Observer reports.

The 49-member choir arrived about a week late for the choir games in the Queen City because of travel delays in Jakarta, missing its scheduled competitions. As the group’s story has spread, donations have poured in to fund their bus ride.

One of the fair organizers had met with the choir, which agreed to perform at the fair before travel plans changed.
