safe-passage-logo(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The City of Lawrenceburg is helping out a domestic violence victims shelter serving Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland counties.

Safe Passage, Inc. in Batesville has been offering free services to victims since the organization formed in 1997.

On Monday, Lawrenceburg City Council voted to approve a donation of $6,300 for Safe Passage. The donation will help the non-profit organization bridge a funding gap. Also, Executive Director Jane Yorn told council that Safe Passage has committed to opening an office in Lawrenceburg to address an increase in cases from Dearborn County.

A fundraiser for Safe Passage in which a group in Brookville broke a world record for the longest wiffleball game ever brought in about $6,000 for the shelter.

According to the Safe Passage website, demand for its services has increased 55 percent in the past two years. Support is available through the 24 toll-free HelpLine (877-733-1990), residential shelter and outreach services.
