(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – For an entire century, the Lawrenceburg Fraternal Order of Eagles #2018 has been supporting the community through volunteer efforts and fundraising.
A lot of good has been done since 1914 by the organization that started as the Fraternal Order of Owls, says trustee Mooch Callaway. Some of their more recent efforts include funding the Lawrenceburg Police Department’s first two police dogs and a K-9 trailer.
The local chapter donated $10,000 to the eternal flame at the veterans circle at Greendale Cemetery.
The Lawrenceburg Eagles have also awarded over $120,000 in scholarships. Each year, the members contribute to the People Helping People Food Drive.
Not only does 2014 bring a special birthday for the Lawrenceburg Eagles, Callaway says. It is also the 35th anniversary of the FOE Ladies Auxiliary and 5th anniversary of the Eagle Riders.
Eagles #2018 will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday, February 15. There will be events to mark the milestone starting with a special anniversary ritual for male members at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagles’ hall
The party will move to Agner Hall at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds at 5:00 p.m. for dinner to which members and invited guests. A program featuring local lawmakers and guest speakers as well as a slideshow will begin at 6:30. A dance caps off the night.
Callaway said the Lawrenceburg Eagles are always seeking new members. You can find more information on the organization’s Facebook page or call (812) 584-2150.
