L’burg City Council Going Green With iPads

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Lawrenceburg City Council and other city leaders are getting iPads.

At their last meeting February 21, city council agreed to purchase 12 iPad 3Gs in hopes of improving communication and cutting back on paper use.

Council voted 3-2 to use money from the city budget’s “Green Team” line item to pay for the iPads. The iPads will cost between $585 and $769.

Lawrenceburg Redevelopment Director Grant Hughes told council that he estimated 750 pieces of paper were used during that council meeting to provide copies of documents to each of the five council members.

Lawrenceburg City Council is not the first to try using iPads. Twenty-six Indiana state lawmakers are taking part in a pilot program with the devices during the current legislative session.
