(Dearborn County, Ind.) – A Dearborn County councilman will face another challenge from a fellow law enforcement officer in 2018.

Councilman Ryan Brandt is running for re-election as a Republican representing Dearborn County’s Council District 3 next year. He may have to win the GOP primary election next May against a familiar opponent, Kevin Turner.

Turner, also a Dillsboro resident, has established a candidate committee as a Republican, Dearborn County Clerk of Courts Rick Probst announced Monday.

Turner and Brandt are both police officers. Brandt serves as the Town of Dillsboro’s chief of police. Turner is a sergeant with the Greendale Police Department.

Brandt and Turner previously squared off in the 2014 general election. Brandt defeated Turner, who ran as a Democrat that year, with over 60 percent of the vote.

County Council District 3 includes Caesar Creek, Clay, Center, Hogan and Washington Townships and Precinct 3 in Sparta Township.

Other county candidate or exploratory committees include the following:

Sally A. McLaughlin, Republican, Judge Superior Court 2

Lynn Deddens, Republican, Prosecutor, Seventh Judicial Circuit

Connie Fromhold, Republican, Dearborn County Auditor

Joyce Oles, Republican, Dearborn County Recorder

Christine Craig, Democrat, Dearborn County Recorder

Shane McHenry, Republican, Dearborn County Sheriff

Brad Schwing, Republican, Dearborn County Sheriff

Jeff Hughes, Republican, Dearborn County Commissioner, District 3.

Liz Morris, Republican, County Council District 1

Ryan Brandt, Republican, County Council District 3
