(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A Lawrenceburg High School swimming standout has made a big “splash” in the pool as well as the classroom.
Senior swimmer Kara Newman was recently named to the 2016-2017 Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Swimming Academic All-State team. She was also named to the 2016 ICGSA Volleyball Academic All-State team this past fall.
In order to be nominated for Academic All-State honors, the athlete must be a senior and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, a minimum ACT composite score of 24, a minimum score of 1100 on the old SAT, or a minimum score of 1600 on the newer SAT. The student-athlete must also be a varsity participant in a minimum of 50 percent of the contests in an IHSAA sponsored girls’ sports program.
Newman is a four-year varsity swimming letterman and a two-time swim team captain. She mostly competed in freestyle and medley events.
Upon graduation from Lawrenceburg High School, Newman plans to attend the University of Evansville Physician Assistant Master’s Program with an understudy in Neuroscience.
Kara is the daughter of Kipp and Cindy Newman.
