(Frankfort, Ky.) – A former fighter pilot and retired Marine is throwing her name in the hat for Congress in Kentucky’s 6th district

Lieutenant Colonel Amy McGrath announced her candidacy as a Democrat for Kentucky’s 6th District seat in an online video last week, The Enquirer reports.

The announcement video quickly went viral with more than one million views in less than a week.

Decked out in a bomber jacket, McGrath took aim at Republican Incumbent Andy Barr for his support for repealing Obamacare.

McGrath, a 1993 graduate from Notre Dame Academy in northern Kentucky, plans to make health care a key part of her campaign.

She joins fellow Democrats, state senator Reggie Thomas and Geoff Young, who also hope to take on Andy Barr in the general election.

McGrath is one of several military veterans to run for office as a Democrat following Donald Trump’s election last year.

During her 20-year military career, McGrath completed 89 combat missions, including bombings targeting al-Qaida and the Taliban.
