Man Accused Of Throwing “Sucker-Punch” Charged With Battery

(Aurora, Ind.) – A man was jailed after he allegedly “sucker-punched” a person outside an Aurora restaurant.
Aurora Police responded to the report in downtown Aurora around 12:17 p.m. on September 4.
Upon arriving at the scene, police say they observed a victim lying on the ground in obvious pain. The victim told police that a male named Derrick Brooks sucker-punched him in the face, and then threw him to the ground and continued to punch him repeatedly. Police say the victim also believed his jaw was broken.
One witness, who was on a nearby boat ramp, told police they saw Brooks exit a vehicle and punch the victim.
Brooks, 31, was located shortly after the incident and placed under arrest. He is charged with Battery with Injury (Class A misdemeanor).
According to a probable cause affidavit, Brooks allegedly admitted hitting the victim.
A bench trial has been set for October 10 at 1:30 p.m.
