Saturday, May 27
Versailles, Ind. – Members of the Versailles American Legion will meet at the Post Home at 9:00 a.m. where they will meet to begin a series of honor ceremonies at several local cemeteries. The approximate schedule is as follows: Elrod at 9:15 a.m., Marble Corner at 9:30, Tanglewood at 9:45, Holton at 10:00, New Marion at 10:15, Shelby at 10:30, Benham at 10:45, Olean-St. Paul’s at 11:00, Olean-St. Peter’s at 11:15, Akers-Friendship at 11:30, Dewberry-St. Paul’s Lutheran at 11:45, Cross Plains at 12:15, Salem at 12:30, Westfork at 1:00, and Grandview Memorial Gardens at 1:15. In keeping with tradition, all veterans are encouraged to join in the annual parade through Versailles, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. Transportation will be provided from the Legion to Cliff Hill Cemetery. Following the services at Cliff Hill, the parade will march to the Ripley County Veterans Memorial on the town square for a brief ceremony.
Sunday, May 28
Bright, Ind. – An observance will be held at Gibson Cemetery on State Line Road at 12:15 p.m. Sunday. State Rep. Randy Lyness will be the guest speaker.
Crosby Township, Oh. – The township’s Memorial Day parade will start at 2:00 p.m. The parade will start at the Crosby Township Community Center on Willey Road and end at the New HAven Cemetery on Oxford Road. Township fire chief Bruce Downard will be the keynote speaker. Maurice Hornbach will be the parade grand marshal.
Dillsboro, Ind. – Northcutt Laaker Post 292 American Legion will hold Memorial Day services at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro at 1:00 p.m. Services in Farmers Retreat will begin at 3:00.
Osgood, Ind. – American Legion Post 267 will hold the following services at area cemeteries on Sunday: St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Osgood at 7:45 a.m., Perseverance Cemetery at 8:00, Delaware Cemetery at 8:15, Mud Pike Cemetery at 8:35, Finks Cemetery at 9:00, Booker Napoleon Cemetery at 9:20, County Line Cemetery at 9:30, Napoleon Lutheran Church Cemetery at 9:50, Napoleon Catholic Cemetery at 10:10, Millhousen Catholic Cemetery at 10:30, Flat Rock Cemetery at 10:50, Hopewell Cemetery at 11:10, Dabney Cemetery at 11:20, Otter Creek Cemetery at 11:40, Greendale Cemetery at 11:50, and Manderley Cemetery at 12:10 p.m.
Monday, May 29 – Memorial Day
Aurora, Ind. – Aurora’s veterans’ organizations and River View Cemetery welcome all to a remembrance ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday at 11:00 a.m.
Batesville, Ind. – Batesville VFW Post 3183 will hold memorial services at local cemeteries. The locations are Holy Family Catholic Church Cemetery at 8:00 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery at 8:30, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at 9:00, St. John’s United Church of Christ at 9:30, St. Louis Catholic Church at 10:00 and Batesville United Methodist Church at 10:30. The day will conclude with a ceremony at 11:00 at Liberty Park.
Erlanger, Ky. – The Erlanger VFW Post 6423 will hold a parade at 9:00 a.m. It will begin at the VFW Post at 4435 Dixie Highway and continue north on Dixie Highway to Forest Lawn Cemetery. A brief memorial service will be held at the cemetery.
Florence, Ky. – The City of Florence’s annual Memorial Day Parade and program will begin with the parade at 10:00 a.m. The parade will start at Boone County High School and end at the Boone County Veterans Memorial at the Boone County Government Center on Ewing Boulevard. A program will start at the memorial at 11:00. The Florence Community Band and Chorus will perform. A display of military equipment and memorabilia will be inside the government center from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Harrison, Oh. – Memorial Day Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. in front of Harrison Elementary and will end in the cemetery. A short ceremony will follow with appearances by Mayor Bill Neyer and keynote speaker Captain Brandon Holloron.
Lawrenceburg, Ind. – A Memorial Day Parade will go down Walnut Street at 10:00 a.m. Staging will take place at 9:00 at the Dearborn County Courthouse. Ceremony to follow at the Greendale Cemetery around 11:00. Judge James Humphrey will be the guest speaker.
Milan, Ind. – The Milan American Legion Post 235 will visit local cemeteries to pay respects to veterans who have died. The schedule is as follows: Pleasant Hill Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Stringtown Cemetery at 10:45, Cravens Cemetery new section at 11:00, Col. Canfield (Buddy) Boone – Daren Baker Park at 11:30, Milan Flag at 11:45, Old Milan Cemetery at 12:00 p.m., Old German Lutheran Cemetery at 12:15, Prattsburg Cemetery at 12:30, St. Paul’s-Stumpke’s Corner Cemetery at 12:45, Pilgrim Home Church (Franklin Cemetery) at 1:00, and Ripley Crossing at 1:20. Lunch will be served at the legion post following the final ceremony.
Miamitown, Oh. – The Miamitown Memorial Day Parade will begin at noon at 7998 Main Street. The event will honor Howard Gieringer.
New Alsace, Ind. – North Dearborn American Legion Post 452 plans to host Memorial Day services at four local cemeteries: East Fork Cemetery in Guilford at 8:30 a.m., Dover Cemetery at 9:00, Yorkville Cemetery at 9:30, and New Alsace Cemetery at 10:00.
Rising Sun, Ind. – Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Poplar Street near the Legion and end at the Ohio County Courthouse. A short ceremony will take place at the courthouse at 10:30. Lunch available following the ceremony.
St. Leon, Ind. – St. Leon American Legion Post 464 will hold Memorial Day services starting with a mass at All Saints Parish St. Joseph Campus at 7:30 a.m. Mass will be followed by short services at various area cemeteries: St. Joseph Cemetery at 8:30, St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Harrison at 9:00, St. Joseph UCC Blue Creek at 9:30, St. Peter Cemetery at 9:50, Klemmes Corner North Cemetery at 10:10, Southgate Cemetery at 10:30, HGA Church in Cedar Grove at 10:45, and Cedar Grove Old Cemetery at 11:00.
Sunman, Ind. – The Kenneth L. Diver American Legion Post 337 in Sunman will hold services at St. John’s Lutheran-Hubbles Cemetery at 8:00 a.m., St. John’s Church of Christ in Penntown at 8:15, St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery at 8:30, St. Nicholas Catholic Church Cemetery at 8:45, Little Memory Baptist Church Cemetery at 9:15, Adams Lutheran Cemetery at 9:30, St. Pius Catholic Church Cemetery at 9:45, Zion Lutheran Church in Manchester at 10:15, St. Stephens Cemetery in Busse at 10:30, Seig Family Memorial in Sunman at 10:45, and St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sunman at 11:00.
Sunman, Ind. – St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day service at 10:00 a.m. Following the ceremony, the United Methodist Women will offer a roast beef dinner from 11:00 until 1:00.
