Milan Celebrates “Hoosiers” Blu-Ray Saturday

(Milan, Ind.) – Milan will be the site of a big celebration Saturday for the movie that put it on the map of U.S. sports fans.

 

Twentieth Century Fox is marking the 25th anniversary of the movie Hoosiers with a new Blu-Ray DVD of the film inspired by the 1954 state champion Milan basketball team. The new edition hits stores Tuesday, June 5.

 

Several public events are planned in Milan on Saturday. Players from the ’54 team such as Gene White and Bobby Plump (he hit the game-winning shot in the 1954 state championship game) as well as actor Maris Valainis, who played Jimmy Chitwood in the movie, will make appearances.

 

• 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Milan ’54 Museum open for media tours and the public. 203 W. Carr St. Milan, IN

 

• 12:00-1:00 p.m. Basketball shooting three-point contest for all K-12 students put on by the Milan High School Athletic Department. Milan High School, 609 N. Warpath Dr.

 

• 2:00 p.m. Showing of Blu-Ray movie “Hoosiers” in Milan High School gym. Free admission.

 

• 3:30-4:15 p.m. Panel of ’54 players participate in a question and answer session at Milan High School.

 

• 4:15-5:15 p.m. Autograph/photo opportunities with team and others at Milan High School.

 

• 5:15-5:45 p.m. Media Interviews with ’54 players at Milan High School.

 

• 7:00-9:00 p.m. Meet the ’54 Team Wine Tasting at future Milan ’54 Hoosiers Museum, 201 Carr St. Milan, IN. Sponsored by Ertel Cellars Winery. $25 per person with proceeds going toward the renovation of Milan ’54 Museum. Call the Ripley Co. Tourism Bureau for reservations, (812) 689-7431.
