Milan HS’ Hand Is An Indiana Academic All-Star

(Milan, Ind.) – A Milan High School student is being recognized as one of Indiana’s best and brightest.
Senior student Nathan Hand, of Milan, was among 40 students from across the state named a 2014 Indiana Academic All-Star. The Academic All-Stars is a program of the Indiana Association of School Principals.
The all-stars were chosen for their accomplishments in academics, service, and leadership. Hand, the son of Eric and Becky Hand, exhibited his qualifications with his excellent grades, being Academic All-State in wrestling, obtaining status as an Eagle Scout, and becoming a concert band gold medalist.
Activities that Hand participates in include golf, soccer, band, newspaper, yearbook, student council, town park cleanup coordinator, Rose-Hulman math team, a blood drive coordinator, and leading a food pantry renovation as his Eagle Scout project.
Hand plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy or Purdue University. As a career, he hopes to become a Naval aviator.
The standout student identified Milan High School physics and chemistry teacher Jessica Small-Summers.
Other area students were Indiana Academic All-Star nominees. They were Batesville, Deepan Saravanan, East Central’s Jacob Knueven, Jac-Cen-Del’s Austin Wagner, Lawrenceburg’s Abbigayle Schmidt, South Dearborn’s Kayla Barrett, South Ripley’s Trent Moorhead, and Switzerland County’s Kirsten Furnish.
