New Chief Deputy Knows Ohio Co. Best

(Ohio County, Ind.) – There’s a new chief deputy at the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Glen Potts has appointed Dee Smith to replace former chief deputy Chad Oakes, who left to join a federal agency.
Smith first joined the sheriff’s office in 1984 under then-sheriff Jim Conner. He joined the Rising Sun Police Department in 1986.
In the 1990s, He left law enforcement for about a decade, but returned to the sheriff’s office in 2003 under sheriff Francis “Swede” Colen.
Potts says no deputy knows Ohio County better than Smith.
As chief deputy, Smith will assist Sgt. Zach Brown in the day-to-day supervision of the sheriff’s office.
