(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The newest member of Dearborn County Council was sworn into office Thursday afternoon.
Ryan Brandt repeated after Dearborn Circuit Court Judge James D. Humphrey in taking the oath.
“I look forward to serving the citizens of Dearborn County,” Brandt said afterwards.
Brandt, the Town of Dillsboro’s Chief of Police, fills the void in county council’s District 3 seat left by the death of councilman Maynard Barrett last month. Brandt was voted in during a caucus by Dearborn County Republicans on June 28.
In winning the caucus, Brandt will also replace Barrett on the November 2014 general election ballot in Dearborn County. He is running against Democrat candidate Kevin Turner.
“What I’d like to do is get my feet wet, of course, get caught up to speed with current council members and the other public officials, see what they have slated upcoming, and make a decision then (on my council priorities),” Brandt said.
One of the first big decisions Brant could be asked to make is whether to cast his vote for or against funding for a proposed expansion of the Dearborn County Courthouse. Council could have a joint meeting with county commissioners sometime in July to learn more about the idea.
Council’s annual county budget-crafting meetings are scheduled for the week of August 25-29.
