Nine-Year-Old Killed In I-74 Crash Near Batesville

(Franklin County, Ind.) – A nine-year-old child is dead following a single vehicle crash in Franklin County.

Indiana State Police responded to the crash just before midnight on Saturday along Interstate 74 near the 147-mile marker, just west of Batesville.

Troopers say a vehicle driven by Scott Borgmann, of Cedar Grove, was traveling eastbound when he lost control and left the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree and went through a fence before rolling over multiple times.

Borgmann’s nine-year-old passenger was transported to Margaret Mary Health where she was pronounced dead. Borgmann was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police have not released a cause of the accident. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Batesville Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Sunman and Batesville Rescue, Batesville Fire Department and Buckley’s Towing Service.
