(Highland Heights, Ky.) – There is a new athletic director at Northern Kentucky University by way of Wisconsin.

On Wednesday, NKU President Geoffrey Mearns named Ken Bothof to the position. Bothof has been the AD at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay since 2002. He has also served as chair of the Horizon League Finance Committee and chaired the Horizon League Executive Committee.

“I look forward to working through this transition. There is a great opportunity for success in the future of Division I athletics. The move to Division I is a big move. It’s a big step up, and it’s going to be challenging and exciting all at the same time,” said Bothof, who oversaw the D-I program at UWGB.

Bothof will officially start his new job at NKU, which went to NCAA Division 1 for the first time last year, on August 19.

Mearns called new athletic director’s accomplishments at UWGB impressive.

“He has positioned the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for great success both within the Horizon League and on the national stage. Our transition to Division I has gone more smoothly than we anticipated. With Ken on board, I know that our best days are ahead of us,” Mearns said.

Bothof fills the office left vacant when former NKU AD Scott Eaton was fired in March. Eaton reportedly had inappropriate relationships with staff and a student, in addition to allegedly misusing school funds. Mike Cusask has been serving as the interim athletic director since Eaton’s firing.
