Nominations Accepted For Mayor Of Bright

(Bright, Ind.) – Bright residents can nominate their four-legged friends to become the next Mayor of Bright.bright-mayor-promotional-photo-04282011-small.jpg

The 4th Annual Mayor of Bright contest is a fundraiser for Bright Masonic Lodge 763 and the Bright Fire Department.

Now through Saturday, May 3, pet owners can fill out an application to have their dog, cat, horse, cow, pig, chicken, or other animal become a candidate. Applications can be picked up at Merchants Bank & Trust, United Community Bank, Logan SuperMart, George’s Pharmacy, Bright BP Market, Skyline Chili, Bright Vet Clinic, Gus’ Trading Post, Tedesco’s Shell Station, or The Bright Beacon newspaper office.

There is a $5 filing fee. Candidates do not have to be from the Bright area.

Completed nomination forms should be placed in an envelope with payment and a photo of the pet. The envelope can be placed in the filing barrel at the same locations listed above by May 3.

Voting will begin on Wednesday, May 7. Votes are $1 each, with an unlimited number of votes allowed.

The three candidates with the most votes on June 30 will become finalists for Mayor of Bright. They will each appear in the Bright Festival parade on July 26, with the final round of voting taking place that day. The winning candidate overall will be named on Sunday, July 27 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bright Fire House.

The winning pet will be awarded an engraved collar, a key to the city, and an engraved steel food bowl.
