Noppert, Rahschulte Are SIRC-It Frontrunners After Indian Trails 5K
By Mike Perleberg
(Milan, Ind.) – A familiar name and a newcomer finished first at the first installment at the 2017 Southeastern Indiana Racing Circuit.
The annual five 5K races in five weeks started Saturday, July 8 with the Indian Trails 5K in Milan. The race in eastern Ripley County returned to the SIRC-it schedule this year with Rising Sun dropping off.
The first to step across the finish line is defending male SIRC-it champion Justin Noppert. The 41-year-old from Lawrenceburg ran the course in 17:50, just ahead of 33-year-old Bryan Wagner’s 18:07. Wagner, also of Lawrenceburg, was a top-30 finisher at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Half-Marathon this past May.
Leading the way for the females was 12-year-old Madison Rahschulte, the Lawrenceburg girl who has made headlines for her quest to run a 5K in all 92 Indiana counties. Rahschulte was 12th overall, but first among the females with a time of 20:35. Kim Noble, of College Corner, Ohio, was 2nd among the females at 21:15.
The Indian Trails 5K had 105 total runners. There were also 28 walking competitors. Find full results for the event at http://www.stuartroadracing.com/roadracing.html.
