(Cincinnati, Oh.) –  He’s done a lot for southeast Indiana’s military veterans, but P.G. Gentrup had thousands standing in support of him one recent afternoon.

The Ohio County Veterans Service Officer was recognized as the “Cincinnati Bell Hometown Hero” at Tuesday’s Cincinnati Reds home game at Great American Ball Park.

In an email to Eagle 99.3, Gentrup said it was an honor.

“I told people the only way I could accept this honor was to accept it for all VETERANS !!  I was their representative and people were applauding all VETERANS and not just me.  I appreciate that I was allowed to return home from Vietnam and go on with my life to live the American Dream.  Those who made the supreme sacrifice never got that opportunity so this was especially for them.  I told them the first thing I was going to do was to salute the American Flag to show proper respect for what it stands for.

It was a great night for me and my family & friends and to be an American !!  PG”
