(Aurora, Ind.) – With many more donations yet to be counted, the 2014 edition of the Relay for Life of Dearborn and Ohio Counties could be considered a success.
“We had a great weekend and raised $120,956 so far,” says Jan Tyler, local Relay organizer. “Of course, additional funds will continue to be added to the amount, including the Hope Highway quarters that lined half of our track, matching funds, a handful of team fundraisers over the next few weeks.”
The funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Contributions for this year can still be made through August 31, 2014. For more information go to www.relayforlife.org/dearbornohiocountyin.
Forty-three teams participated in the relay at South Dearborn High School’s track. Many of the walkers and runners circling the track were seen wearing superhero shirts or costumes – the event’s theme was “heroes for hope”.
There were 1,007 luminaries – candle-lit white paper bags – lining the track that burned through Saturday night into Sunday morning in memory of those who have lost their cancer battle.
The event also attracted more than 50 cancer survivors. Forty-two people became a member of or renewed their membership in the American Cancer Society Action Network.
