(Patriot, Ind.) – A man is in jail after he wrecked a pickup truck into a firehouse in Switzerland County Wednesday night.

A pickup truck driven by Chris Harris, 23, of Patriot, wrecked into the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department firehouse at about 10:00 p.m., said Fire Captain Colin English.

Harris was not harmed. No firefighters were inside at the time of the accident.

The building, however, suffered extensive damage of around $40,000, said English.

“We’re starting to remodel and now we’ve got a big hole in the side of the building,” English said, adding that it is fortunate that a propane tank that was struck did not explode.

Switzerland County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated the crash and took Harris into custody on charges of Operating While Intoxicated and OWI Refusal.

Harris was set to be released from the Switzerland County Jail at around noon Thursday.
