(Franklin County, Ind.) – In a possible attempt to avoid an OVI arrest, a man went to the hospital before deputies arrived at the scene of a serious crash he was involved in.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department says Timothy A. Kersey, 45, of Brookville, was driving a 2000 Saturn SL2 northbound on Horseshoe Bend Road near Cane Mill Road just before midnight on Wednesday, October 11. Kersey’s vehicle had veered off the roadway, struck a utility pole and several mailboxes, then rolled over. It came to a rest on its side.

Kersey was transported by private vehicle to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville prior to deputies arriving on the scene. He was later transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies said in a news release that alcohol is a suspected factor in the wreck. Toxicology results are pending, they added.

Brookville Volunteer Fire Department, Brookville EMS 2 and Responder 24 assisted at the crash scene.
